This contemporary tune by the great American fiddler and composer Jay Ungar is the title theme of the 1990 Ken Burns series The Civil War, with which it has been associated ever since. The tune is evocative of Civil War era music and has some similarities to the song "Massa's In the Cold Cold Ground," written in 1852 by Stephen Foster.
